Scholarship Policy
Application Procedure Anyone in need can apply to the Scholarship Fund. The option to apply for aid shall be included on all PTA sponsored club forms. “Need” can be determined by any combination of the following items: a letter explaining the family’s financial situation, the previous year’s tax return and/or most recent pay stub(s). Scholarship requests should be dropped off at the school in an envelope labeled “Attention PTA Presidents.”
Alternatively, BES staff may apply on behalf of a deserving family, based on the school’s knowledge of the family's financial situation and the child’s needs and interests.
Approval Approval or denial of an applied scholarship shall be the responsibility and decision of the BES PTA president(s) and the BES PTA treasurer(s). Approval may also include consultation with the school staff. Applications submitted by BES staff must be approved by the school principal.
Privacy
All applications for scholarship shall be reviewed in strict confidence and treated in a professional manner.
Fund Limits
The ceiling on the benefits shall be limited to $300 per child per school year. Furthermore, there shall be a $700 ceiling per family per school year. Finally, the scholarship fund shall be divided into three parts. Each session will be allotted $1000.
Qualified applications will be accepted until two weeks before the beginning of the club cycle and funded based on need as determined by the approval committee. Scholarships may be full or partial as determined by need and demand. If there are scholarship funds remaining after the cut-off date, they may be distributed as per the approval provisions above.
