WMCRP Architects ask that you check out their community bulletin board dedicated to the expansion project. Their goal is to use the site to post the most current design schemes for the proposed addition to the school. They encourage and welcome comments on anything posted on this site. Click here.

MCPS is undertaking a capacity study to determine whether an addition to the Bannockburn Elementary School is possible to accommodate overcrowding at neighboring Woodacres Elementary. Woodacres is undergoing a similar capacity study and MCPS is considering three options to address its overcrowding: (1) a large addition at Woodacres to address all of its future needs; (2) a modest addition at Woodacres and a modest addition at Bannockburn to help overcrowding at Woodacres; (3) a large addition at Bannockburn (with an increase of 250+ students) to accommodate the overcapacity at Woodacres. Ultimately if any type of addition is chosen for Bannockbun, a boundary study will be conducted to determine where the BES school boundary lines will be extended to incorporate students from Woodacres.
An initial 5 meetings have been scheduled so that our PTA, staff and community can meet with MCPS staff and the hired architect to discuss their initial proposals. All of these meetings are open to anyone wishing to attend. The purpose of the meetings is to develop preliminary design options for the proposed project. General ideas will be discussed; not specific detailed plans. Should the Board of Education adopt one of the options, MCPS would then hope that the BOE and County Council would fund the next step of official drawings and specifications for the 2011-2012 school year. The construction would be slated to finish in the next 4-5 years. The meeting dates are as follows:
- January 4 at 3:45 p.m. at BES
- January 18 at 7:00 p.m. at BES
- February 3 at 3:45 p.m. at BES
- February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at BES
- March 1 at 7:00 p.m. (in conjunction with our March PTA meeting) at BES
The meetings are cumulative; so each meeting builds on the ideas developed at the meeting before and ideas discussed at the meetings are continuously incorporated into the ongoing designs. The meetings will include discussions on spatial relationships with the existing school interior, pedestrian and traffic flow, and how the school will fit into the community at large.
