Community Service
Every year Bannockburn students have the opportunity to participate in community service projects. Working with teachers, parents and volunteers, students gain a greater awareness of the community they live in. In return, their activities make a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community.
March Community Service - Earth Hour
BREATHE DEEP DC
5K WALK TO FIGHT LUNG CANCER 11.7.10

What a crowd! A grateful thank you to the 126 members of our team. Together we raised $4,706 for lung cancer research. The combined DC Walk teams raised $264,389.36, beating our modest goal of a quarter million dollars. The Mall was beautiful with autumn colors and brilliant white monuments, but the most beautiful sight was the sea of blue Lungevity shirts under that blue Washington sky.

In the middle of the courageous crowd stood one particularly courageous man - Jerry Sorkin. This is a man who has not only raised money, but has also raised awareness that we can fight back against this disease. And we do it best when we all stand together. Jerry, you're the man. Speaking on behalf of our team, thank you for giving us this opportunity.

With gratitude to you all,

Ross Mills and Francine Gugerty, Co-Captains

Treats-4-Troops Collects
a Truckload of Halloween Candy

The Community Service Committee and MoverMoms wants to thank everyone who donated candy during the Treats-4-Troops collection.

The four bins of goodies collected at Bannockburn earlier this month, along with other donations from around the area,  filled a truck that was packed up and shipped off to the 463rd Army Engineer Battalion in Wheeling, West Virginia. There the non-profit Boatsie's Boxes will include the treats in some of the more than 20,000 Christmas stockings they will send to U.S troops of all faiths in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
